The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to sharpen their 90-man roster as training camp approaches in two days.

On the day they made the signing of veteran pass rusher Melvin Ingram III official, the Steelers also announced the signing of journeyman tackle Chaz Green to a one-year contract.

Green, a third-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2015, spent last season with the Indianapolis Colts. He made one start — it came in Week 16 against the Steelers at Heinz Field — while appearing in a career-high 15 games.

Green also has spent time with the New Orleans Saints, Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders. He has made eight starts in 37 career NFL appearances.

The projected starters at tackle this season are Chuks Okorafor, who is switching from right tackle to left, and Zach Banner, who is returning from an ACL tear that limited him to one game last season. The Steelers signed Joe Haeg, formerly of Tampa Bay, in the offseason to provide depth at tackle and guard.

Ingram’s signing became official a day after it was reported he had reached agreement with the Steelers on a one-year deal. Ingram will provide depth at outside linebacker where the Steelers were thin behind T.J. Watt and second-year player Alex Highsmith.

Ingram has been selected to the Pro Bowl three times in his 10-year career. A former first-round pick, Ingram had 43 sacks for the Los Angeles Chargers from 2015-19. Last year, though, Ingram was limited to seven games because of knee injuries, and he failed to record a sack.

To make room for Ingram and Green on the roster, the Steelers released tackle Jarron Jones and linebacker Calvin Bundage.

Jones spent the 2020 season on the practice squad, and Bundage was signed in May as an undrafted free agent after the NFL Draft.
