Steelers' Mason Rudolph has 6-8 week rehab after ‘procedure’ on shoulder

His left arm in a black elastic sling, Mason Rudolph walked through the Pittsburgh Steelers locker room a day after a season ended with him on the injured reserve list.

Rudolph said that after he injured his shoulder during the third quarter of last week’s loss at the New York Jets, he found himself propped up in a hospital bed.

“It was a procedure to reduce my sternoclavicular bone, so it’s not a big deal at all,” Rudolph said Monday from the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. “Once it was back where it needs to be, it felt a lot better.

“It’s just crazy, here I am, playing in a game and having some success, moving the team down the field – and three hours later, I am vertical in a hospital bed. So that kind of stunk. All small bumps in the road that that we will overcome in time.”

A 2018 third-round pick quarterback, Rudolph said he had a 6-8 week rehabilitation period ahead of him. That would leave him ready in plenty of time for spring organized team activities and the rest of the voluntary offseason workouts.

“Now that we corrected it with the procedure, I am not in pain,” Rudolph said. “It was hurting during the game. I tried to stick in there and finish it out…. And it ended up being a little bit more serious. But it will be a little bump in the road moving forward.”
