Seven players remain on injured reserve, and two others left Monday night’s game because of injury and are no sure bets to return next week. But the Pittsburgh Steelers could be on the verge of welcoming back three potential starters who sat out Monday’s game because of injury or illness.
“We may have a few guys working their way back from injury,” coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday during his weekly video conference call with media. “James Conner, Kevin Dotson. Vince Williams is in the ramp up procedure as it relates to covid, so we’re excited about potentially having all three of those guys at our disposal and utilizing their talents to build a winning formula.”
The Steelers (11-3), who have lost three consecutive, are scheduled to host the Indianapolis Colts (10-4) on Sunday.
A veteran inside linebacker, Williams has missed the past two games — both Steelers losses — while on the reserve/covid-19 list after an apparent positive coronavirus test. A former Pro Bowl running back, Conner sat out Monday’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals because of a quad injury suffered eight days prior in a loss to the Buffalo Bills. Dotson (shoulder) also was injured during that game after replacing starting left guard Matt Feiler, who went on IR because of a pectoral injury.

Tomlin had few details about the status of tight end Eric Ebron (shoulder) or special-teamer Derek Watt (concussion), who were knocked out of Monday’s game during the first half.
“It really is too soon,” Tomlin said, speaking less than 13 hours after Monday’s game in Cincinnati ended. “…I don’t have a lot of information there. I know that both guys are being evaluated. … Hopefully I will have an update for you sooner rather than later.”
