Pittsburgh Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick was forced out of Sunday’s home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars because of a non-contact hamstring injury.

All-Pro Pittsburgh Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick left Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and did not return because of a hamstring injury suffered during the first quarter.

Fitzpatrick was well away from the play when he went down without being contacted while running in coverage of Jaguars receiver Christian Kirk. Fitzpatrick remained on the wet grass for several minutes while being attended to by training personnel but did walk off the field on his own power.

He retreated to the locker room and initially was announced as “doubtful” to return to the game. Before the quarter ended, though, the Steelers announced Fitzpatrick would not return.

The Steelers often deploy three safeties, so Damontae Kazee and Keanu Neal were expected to play more prominent roles in Fitzpatrick’s stead. Special teams captain Miles Killebrew came on for the first passing-situation third down after Fitzpatrick left the game and was often on the field during the second quarter.

Fitzpatrick has missed only three games since joining the Steelers via trade during September 2019. He has been first-team AP NFL All Pro in three of his four seasons with the Steelers.
