Steelers' Najee Harris, Pressley Harvin III named to PFWA all-rookie team

Running back Najee Harris and punter Pressley Harvin III were two representatives of the Pittsburgh Steelers to earn spots on the NFL all-rookie team as announced Tuesday by the Pro Football Writers Association.

Harris, the team’s first-round pick, finished fourth in the NFL with 1,200 rushing yards, and he also was fourth with 1,667 yards from scrimmage. Harris established franchise rookie records in both categories.

Harvin, a seventh-round selection, had a gross average of 42.6 yards per punt and a net average of 38 yards. He was among the lowest-rated punters in the league. Harvin missed two games because of the death of his father, then returned for the season finale and the wild-card playoff loss at Kansas City. Harvin had one of his best games of the season against the Chiefs when he had a 49.7 gross average and a 40.9 net on seven attempts.

Despite catching 60 passes for 497 yard and seven touchdowns, tight end Pat Freiermuth was not picked to represent his position. Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts was honored after catching 68 passes for 1,026 yards and one touchdown.

Dallas Cowboys linebacker and former Penn State star Micah Parsons was named the PFWA Rookie of the Yyear and rookie defensive player of the year. Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase was selected the offensive rookie of the year.

Three teams — Cleveland, Kansas City and Miami — had three players selected to the all-rookie team. The Steelers were among five teams with two players honored, joining Cincinnati, Denver, New England and the Los Angeles Chargers.
