McFarland was highly recruited coming out of high school; he was rated the third-best running back nationally by 247 Sports and Rivals and turned down scholarship offers from Alabama, Penn State and Georgia. … McFarland had 298 rushing yards against eventual Big Ten champion Ohio State during a Nov. 17, 2018 game. He had runs of 75, 81, and 52 yards in that game. … The next season against the Buckeyes, McFarland broke an 81-yard carry. … He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.44 seconds at the NFL combine, the fourth-fastest of the 28 running backs who tested. … McFarland missed his senior year of high school at powerhouse DeMatha Catholic because of a broken leg.
