Steelers notes: Rams' Zac Robinson reportedly to interview for O-coordinator
Los Angeles Rams pass-game coordinator Zac Robinson will interview with the Pittsburgh Steelers for their vacant offensive coordinator job, Sports Illustrated reported Monday.
Robinson, 37, just completed his fifth season on the Rams’ staff under head coach Sean McVay. Following two seasons as assistant quarterbacks coach and one as assistant wide receivers coach, Robinson has been in his current role the past two seasons.
Robinson reportedly also has or will interview for coordinator gigs with the New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears and New England Patriots. A former Oklahoma State quarterback, Robinson appears as if he will become the latest Rams assistant to earn a promotion via another team in recent years. The head coaches of the Cincinnati Bengals (Zac Taylor), Green Bay Backers (Matt LeFleur) and Minnesota Vikings (Kevin O’Connell) were offensive coaches with the Rams under McVay.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin last week said he intended to make an external hire at offensive coordinator, a spot vacated by the November firing of Matt Canada. Running backs coach Eddie Faulkner served as interim coordinator over the final six games of the season with quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan calling the plays during games.
More honors
Mirroring their honors via the AP announced earlier this month, the Steelers’ T.J. Watt and Miles Killebrew were named to the Professional Football Writers of America all-NFL team announced Monday.
Watt joined former Penn State player Micah Parsons as the all-league outside linebackers with Killebrew named for special teams prowess. Each, by extension, also was on the all-AFC team at his respective spot.
This is the fourth time Watt has made the PFWA team and first for Killebrew. Watt was listed among the All-Pro “edge rushers” by the AP with Killebrew the first-team special teamer.
Coaching all-stars
Two Steelers assistant coaches were named to staffs for college all-star games to be played early next month.
Steelers assistant defensive backs coach Gerald Alexander will serve as a linebackers coach for the West team at the East-West Shrine Bowl, and assistant offensive line coach Isaac Williams will serve as a co-offensive line coach for the “American” team at the Senior Bowl.
The Senior Bowl is Feb. 3 in Mobile, Ala. The Shrine Bowl is Feb. 1 in Frisco, Texas.
