Outside linebacker Ola Adeniyi, one of the early stars for the Pittsburgh Steelers in training camp, had surgery Friday morning for an unspecified injury, according to his social media accounts.

Adeniyi posted a post-surgery photo from his hospital bed on his Instagram account but later deleted the post. Adeniyi also deleted a post on Twitter in which he mentioned his injury.

“So happy that I am in an organization that shows so much support from the coaches to the players to the fans,” Adeniyi wrote. “I know I’ll be back and healthy in no time.”

The surgery will prevent Adeniyi from playing in the Steelers’ preseason game Saturday night against Kansas City, and his status for the final two preseason games and regular season is unknown.

Adeniyi did not practice Thursday, the final workout of training camp at Saint Vincent. Coach Mike Tomlin did not list Adeniyi among the team’s injured players in his pre-practice news conference. The Steelers, however, signed outside linebacker Christian Kuntz before practice Thursday.

Adeniyi, who is in his second season, started at right outside linebacker in the preseason opener against Tampa Bay. Adeniyi had three tackles and a quarterback hit. His 49 snaps were fourth-most among defensive players, and Adeniyi played 14 snaps on special teams, which tied for third-most on the team.

Adeniyi was placed on injured reserve before his rookie season. He was activated in December and played in one game.
