Steelers-Packers notebook: Chris Boswell’s 7th game with multiple 50-plus yard FGs
Three Pittsburgh Steelers possessions and less than 18 minutes of play into Sunday night’s game, Chris Boswell already had converted a pair of long field goals.
The Steelers’ 11-year veteran kicker, Boswell had successful kicks of 56 and 50 yards by the early portions of the second quarter of a game against the Green Bay Packers at Acrisure Stadium.
That marked the seventh career game for Boswell with multiple field goals of at least 50 yards. Only three active NFL kickers have more such games.
Boswell, incidentally, added 48-yarder later in the second quarter.
By halftime Sunday, Boswell had improved to 48 for 58 in his career on field goals of 50 yards or longer, including 5 for 6 in 2025.
Ekuale injured
Steelers defensive tackle Daniel Ekuale suffered a knee injury during a second-quarter play and soon thereafter was announced as it for the remainder of the contest.
A seven-year veteran in his first season with the Steelers, Ekuale was attended to on the field after a Green Bay incomplete pass. Ekuale was taken to the blue medical tent on the sidelines but quickly was accompanied by training personnel into the locker room.
The team initially had termed him as “doubtful” to return, but by the end of the first half downgraded Ekuale’s status to “out.”
With Logan Lee a healthy scratch, the Steelers played the remainder of Sunday’s game with only rookie Yahya Black and little-used Esezi Otomewo as reserve defensive linemen behind starters Cameron Heyward, Daniel Harmon and Keeanu Benton.
Big-man catch
Starting left guard Isaac Seumalo had a pectoral injury that prevented him from playing after the opening drive of the third quarter, meaning his backup was called into duty.
But by then, though, Seumalo’s backup already had made himself seen in the game.
Spencer Anderson — a former college offensive tackle listed at 305 pounds — had a 4-yard reception on the Steelers’ second offensive snap of the game.
Anderson has served as “jumbo” tight end extensively for the Steelers this season.
Tipped passes
With special-teams captain Miles Killebrew out for the season because of a knee injury, the Steelers have been rotating through a member of the unit to join the offensive and defensive captains for the pregame coin toss. Sunday, it was Payton Wilson, who plays extensively on special teams despite being listed as a starter at inside linebacker. … Former Steelers outside linebacker James Harrison — a member of the franchise’s Hall of Honor — participated in the pregame Terrible Towel twirl just before kickoff. … Bret Michaels performed during halftime on a stage set up on the open concourse under the scoreboard. A Butler native and avowed Steelers fan, Michaels came to fame as the front man for the 1980s rock band Poison. … Aaron Rodgers’ 45-yard completion to Roman Wilson during the first quarter traveled 55.7 yards in the air, according to NFL Next Gen Stats, the longest such completed pass by the Steelers this season. Only the Indianapolis Colts’ Daniel Jones had a completion that traveled more air yards throughout NFL’s Week 8.
