One day before the Pittsburgh Steelers open the NFL’s preseason schedule by playing the Dallas Cowboys in the Hall of Fame Game, they cut two players from their 90-man roster.

Offensive lineman Anthony Coyle and defensive back DeMarkus Acy were placed on the waived/injured list Wednesday.

No corresponding moves were announced to replace those two players on the roster.

Acy, an undrafted free agent from Missouri who was signed in the offseason, announced on his verified Twitter account he tore an ACL during practice Tuesday — the final workout for the Steelers ahead of the preseason opener in Canton, Ohio.

“It hurts that this happened just days before my pro debut, but there’s no quit in me,” Acy wrote. “Prayer has always got me through anything and I continue to live through faith and let life teach me valuable lessons.”

Coyle, a tackle who also has taken snaps at center, spent most of last season on the Steelers practice squad, and he was elevated to the gameday roster for three games. He signed a futures contract with the Steelers in the offseason, but he has missed practices on two occasions because of injury.

Coyle played at Fordham and was on the roster with the Houston Texans, Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons before joining the Steelers in 2020.
