For the third time this season, the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday added veteran running back Jonathan Ward to their active roster. The move could signal that Ward will be in uniform for the Steelers for a fifth time this season during Sunday’s AFC North showdown with the Baltimore Ravens.

A five-year veteran, Ward has five carries for 22 yards and has at times been back to return kickoffs for the Steelers this season. He might be needed to dress against the Ravens because running back Jaylen Warren suffered a back injury this week and remains listed as questionable to play Sunday.

Ward’s promotion came as veteran cornerback C.J. Henderson was placed on injured reserve. A No. 9 overall draft pick in 2020, Henderson was signed to the Steelers’ practice squad Sept. 25 and added to the active roster Oct. 22. He has not, however, been in uniform for any game for the Steelers.

Henderson began appearing on the league-mandated injury report Thursday because of a neck injury. He did not practice Thursday or Friday.

In another move Saturday, the Steelers placed cornerback Zyon Gilbert on the practice squad injured list. Gilbert had bumped on and off the Steelers’ camp roster and practice squad for the past three months and is believed to have suffered a significant injury during practice this week. He has three NFL regular-season games of experience, all in 2022 for the New York Giants.
