Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett was forced out of Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars because of a rib injury.

Pickett suffered the injury while absorbing a hit after throwing an incomplete pass with 17 seconds left in the first half. Jaguars defensive lineman Adam Gotsis drove Pickett into the ground but was not penalized on the play.

Mitch Trubisky took the final offensive snap of the first half for the Steelers. As the second half was beginning, the Steelers initially announced that Pickett was likely to return to the game. But Trubisky came out for the start of the Steelers’ first offensive drive of the second half, and shortly afterward the team announced Pickett would not return.

Sunday was the fourth time among 19 career starts that Pickett did not finish a game because of injury. Last season, twice it was for concussion protocol. During the loss at the Houston Texans four weeks ago, Pickett was knocked out of the game because of a knee injury.
