Jaylen Warren confirmed that he took part in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ first practice of the regular season Monday.
“It feels good,” the Steelers co-No. 1 running back said from UPMC Rooney Sports Complex after the session. “We all anticipated (a return to practicing) this week. It’s finally here. It was good to go out and practice with my brothers.”
Warren suffered a hamstring injury during the second preseason game Aug. 17. The regular season begins this coming Sunday with a game at the Atlanta Falcons.
Warren said he did individual drills and worked on special teams.
“Felt great,” he said.
He expects to fully join team offensive drills Wednesday. Steelers players have an off day Tuesday followed by three consecutive days of practice before the opener.
“We’re going to take it slow,” said Warren, who has played in 34 of the Steelers’ 35 games (including playoffs) since he entered the league in 2022.
“I’ll be ready by Sunday.”
Warren and Najee Harris were almost at a 50-50 split in regards to snaps played at running back last season. This season, veteran Cordarrelle Patterson is expected to play a role as a running back, too.
