Shown in an August 2024 while playing for the Philadelphia Eagles, offensive lineman Max Scharping re-signed Tuesday with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers re-signed veteran reserve offensive lineman Max Scharping to a one-year contract, it was announced Tuesday.

Scharping joined the Steelers this past Oct. 1 via a signing off the practice squad of the Washington Commanders. He spent the rest of the season on the Steelers 53-man roster but played in only three games (including playoffs), combining for seven snaps at guard and three on special teams.

The 6-foot-6, 327-pound Scharping has 81 regular-season games of NFL experience since he was drafted in the second round in 2019 by the Houston Texans. Scharping, who will turn 29 during training camp, has not started a game since 2021 for Houston. The Steelers were the fourth organization he’s been with since then.

The vast majority of his pro experience has come at guard. With Nate Herbig having left via free agency and Mason McCormick bumped up the depth chart after the departure of starting right guard James Daniels, the Steelers have only Spencer Anderson, Ryan McCollum, the recently acquired Lecitus Smith and Scharping as reserve interior offensive linemen with even appreciable NFL experience.
