The Pittsburgh Steelers released veteran reserve offensive tackle Calvin Anderson.
The contract termination of the soon-to-be 30-year-old veteran of six NFL seasons was announced on the NFL’s transactions page.
Anderson had appeared in 13 games over the past two seasons for the Steelers. He entered 2025 as the top reserve “swing” tackle but appeared on offense for only one game — Nov. 23 at the Chicago Bears after left tackle Broderick Jones suffered his season-ending neck injury.
But by the following game, Andrus Peat had been bumped up the depth chart ahead of Anderson to start at left tackle in Jones’ stead. And during the practice week after that ensuing game, Anderson suffered a season-ending knee injury.
Anderson has 14 career starts and 59 games played for three teams. He was signed by the Steelers in September 2024 and played sporadically until the wild-card playoff game that season when he played the final 29 snaps at left tackle following an injury to Dan Moore Jr.
The Steelers signed him to a two-year, $4 million extension last April. His release will lead to a “dead cap” charge of $415,000 for the 2026 season, according to overthecap.com.
Dylan Cook started the Steelers’ final five games (including playoffs) at left tackle and performed well. Jones is still recovering from his injury.
