Steelers reportedly interview former Browns coach Hue Jackson for offensive coordinator
The Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to announce their next offensive coordinator. A familiar name with AFC North ties reportedly is among the candidates.
Former Cleveland Browns coach and Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson interviewed this week with the Steelers, according to an ESPN report.
Jackson compiled a 3-36-1 record as Browns head coach from 2016 until getting fired midway through the 2018 season. Also the coach of the Oakland Raiders in 2011, Jackson has a reputation as a strong offensive mind. He has been a coordinator for four NFL teams: Washington (2003), the Atlanta (2007), Oakland (2010) and Bengals (2014-15).
Andy Dalton had his best season under Jackson’s tutelage as the Bengals won the AFC North in 2015. The 2014 Bengals finished sixth in the NFL in rushing. Coming off finishing last in the league in rushing, the Steelers have made it a priority to improve that aspect of their offense.
The Steelers cut ties with coordinator Randy Fichtner last week. ESPN and the NFL Network reported quarterbacks coach Matt Canada was expected to be promoted to coordinator, but the team has made no announcement.
