The Pittsburgh Steelers will open the 2019 regular season on Sept. 8 at New England, with the Patriots raising their sixth championship banner, according to a report by The Athletic.

The Patriots tied the Steelers by winning a sixth Lombardi Trophy in February when they defeated the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl, 13-3.

The Athletic report said the Steelers-Patriots will be the spotlight game on the first “Sunday Night Football” telecast on NBC.

The Steelers last opened the season in New England in 2015 when they were defeated, 28-21, at Gillette Stadium.

The entire NFL schedule will be released Wednesday at 8 p.m.
