Steelers' rookie RB Jaylen Warren ruled out from playing against Colts
A different running back will be backing up starter Najee Harris when the Pittsburgh Steelers play the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night.
Rookie Jaylen Warren was listed as out for the game when the Steelers released their injury report Saturday. Warren and cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon were listed as out, while inside linebacker Robert Spillane and reserve wide receiver Miles Boykin were listed as questionable.
Warren and Witherspoon have hamstring injuries. Spillane injured his back, and Boykin has a strained oblique.
Warren was injured in the first half of the Steelers’ 37-30 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Fourth-year running back Benny Snell played a handful of snaps on offense but did not get a carry in the game. Snell likely will sub for Warren on Monday, and the Steelers could promote a running back from the practice squad.
Warren did not practice Saturday, the third consecutive day he was held out of activity. Witherspoon will miss his seventh game. Boykin and Spillane were limited practice participants for the second day in a row.
Center Mason Cole, who did not practice Wednesday because of a foot injury, was a full practice participant Saturday and has no injury designation, clearing his way to start against Indianapolis. Defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi was limited in practice because of a toe injury, but he also doesn’t carry an injury designation.
Guard James Daniels practiced fully after being limited Friday with a groin injury. Rookie tight end Connor Heyward returned to practice after being absent Friday because of an illness.
