Former West Virginia offensive lineman Doug Nester was one of two players signed by the Steelers to reserve/future contracts Thursday.

Wide receiver Brandon Smith, who played three games over the past two seasons for the New York Jets, also signed. Smith has also spent time on the practice squads of the Jets, New England Patriots, Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys since 2021.

Nester entered the league in 2024 with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent. He spent the final month of this past season on the Steelers practice squad.

At West Virginia, Nester made 52 starts.
