While playing for the Houston Texans last month, wide receiver Anthony Miller makes a touchdown catch in a game against the Carolina Panthers. Miller was signed to the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad Tuesday.

To boost a wide receivers corps dealing with the loss of JuJu Smith-Schuster, the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday signed former Chicago Bears second-round pick Anthony Miller to their practice squad.

Miller, 27, had 134 catches for 1,564 yards and 11 touchdowns over his first three NFL seasons but caught only five passes over two games with the Houston Texans this year before being released last week. In July, Houston traded for Miller via a swap of late-round picks.

The 5-foot-11, 199-pound Miller has worked almost exclusively out of the slot over his career. Smith-Schuster had been serving mostly in the slot for the Steelers over the past two seasons.

Smith-Schuster will undergo shoulder surgery Wednesday and be placed on injured reserve.

Also signed to the practice squad was defensive lineman Isaiah Mack, who appeared in 21 games the past two seasons with the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots.

The Steelers released defensive lineman Eli Ankou from their practice squad.
