Steelers sign former Penn State WR Dan Chisena to reserve/futures contract
Former Penn State wide receiver Dan Chisena is returning to his home state.
After spending the past three seasons in the Minnesota Vikings organization, the 25-year-old wide receiver from Downingtown signed a reserve/futures contract Monday with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Chisena, who is 6-foot-3, 202 pounds, spent last season primarily on Minnesota’s practice squad.
Chisena walked on at Penn State, where he ran track in addition to playing football. He received a scholarship before his senior season in 2019 and played in 12 games, catching three passes for 66 yards.
Chisena joined the Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He and made the 53-man roster based on his special teams work and played in 14 games as a rookie. Chisena played in 11 games in 2021 but just two last season as he spent most of the year on the practice squad.
In three seasons with the Vikings, Chisena played just 11 offensive snaps, so his ability to play special teams will be his path to making the Steelers roster.
Chisena originally signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in April 2020. He was the only rookie undrafted free agent to make the Vikings 53-man roster. Chisena played in 27 games in his career for the Vikings (2020-22). He tallied 10 special teams tackles and one fumble recovery at Houston (Oct. 2020).
