The Pittsburgh Steelers added to their organizational depth at defensive end Tuesday, signing former Wisconsin lineman Conor Sheehy to a reserve/future contract.

The 6-foot-4, 293-pound Sheehy was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Green Bay Packers last spring but was cut at the end of training camp. He joins the Steelers’ 90-man offseason roster.

Sheehy made 33 starts over four college seasons, missing only one game over that span as part of the winningest senior class in school history. Though he was a defensive tackle in college, Sheehy’s official NFL draft page projects him as a 3-4 end in the NFL.

After starters Cameron Heyward, Stephon Tuitt and Javon Hargrave, the Steelers are thin on the defensive line. All three backups from last season — Tyson Alualu, L.T. Walton and Dan McCullers — are unrestricted free agents.
