Steelers sign 3 more undrafted free agents
The Pittsburgh Steelers continued the process of signing their undrafted free agents by getting defensive tackle Josiah Coatney of Ole Miss, Auburn fullback Spencer Nigh and Tulane center Christian Montano under contract.
The Steelers have signed nine of the 10 undrafted free agents they agreed to terms with Saturday after the NFL Draft.
Coatney, a redshirt senior, is 6-foot-3, 308 pounds and started three years on the Ole Miss defensive line. He totaled 6.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss in his career. As a sophomore, he had 65 tackles, including eight for a loss, and 3.5 sacks. He had 51 tackles as a junior and 46 (plus two sacks) as a senior.
Coatney attended the NFL Combine in February.
The 6-4, 300-pound Montano started 13 games at center in his lone season at Tulane. Montano went to Tulane as a graduate transfer and petitioned the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility after breaking his foot in the first quarter of the season opener at Brown.
At the Ivy League school, Montano played center before moving to tackle as a junior.
Nigh carries 267 pounds on his 6-foot frame. After serving as Auburn’s backup H-back as a junior, he became the team’s fullback as a senior, making nine starts. Nigh appeared in 40 career games, but it wasn’t until his senior year that he recorded any stats: one carry and two catches.
Left to be signed is Baylor defensive end James Lockhart.
