The Pittsburgh Steelers added some depth to their running backs position room with the signing of La’Mical Perine, announced Thursday.
Perine, 26, was released last week by the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. He has 17 regular-season games of NFL experience over the past four years and was active for the Chiefs’ three AFC playoff games in January — though he played only on special teams.
A cousin of former Steelers linebacker Myles Jack and NFL running back Samaje Perine, La’Mial Perine was a fourth-round pick of the New York Jets in 2020 out of Florida. He has 94 career carries and 14 receptions over 283 career offensive snaps played.
The Steelers have a proven 1-2 punch at running back in Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren, and earlier this week they signed veteran Jonathan Ward. The Steelers also have one of the highest-profile undrafted free agent running backs in Georgia’s Daijuan Edwards.
