Steelers T.J. Watt says he’s going to play vs. Titans
T.J. Watt didn’t make everyone wait for the Pittsburgh Steelers to release their injury status report regarding Sunday’s scheduled home game against the Tennessee Titans.
“I’m going to play,” Watt said early Friday afternoon.
When the injury report cane out more than 3½ hours later, Watt was listed as a full practice participant for the second consecutive day. It also confirmed that Watt has been cleared to play Sunday.
Watt did not play in the second half of the Steelers’ most recent game Dec. 9 at Minnesota because he suffered a groin injury. Watt has missed two full games and more than a half of three others this season because of his groin and a hip/knee ailment. He still leads the NFL in sacks with 16.
Watt, in part, blamed the short week between games for the Steelers following their Dec. 5 home win against the Baltimore Ravens.
“It’s just one of those things. The Thursday games are always tough,” Watt said. “Obviously, had some tightness throughout the week going into it, and didn’t have enough time to fully recover. Tried to go and wasn’t able to play the whole game.”
Watt said the three extra days of recovery in advance of this week’s game have been a benefit.
“I’m feeling much better this week,” he said.
