Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth’s knee injury not significant
Pat Freiermuth had the benefit of a long offseason in the event the knee injury he suffered in the season finale was significant.
He certainly must pleased he won’t have to utilize all of it.
Freiermuth, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ standout tight end, suffered what had the look of a potentially serious injury during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 28-14 victory against the Cleveland Browns. But during his season wrap-up news conference Monday at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, Tomlin delivered the news that Freiermuth’s injury was not as bad as might have been feared.
“I think it can be characterized as an MCL sprain, non-surgical,” Tomlin said. “So that’s exciting for him.”
In his second NFL season since being the Steelers’ second-round pick, Freiermuth had 63 catches for 732 yards and two touchdowns. A former Penn State player, Freiermuth has nine touchdowns over two seasons with the Steelers.
Though he missed a game in October because of NFL concussion protocol, Freiermuth ranked sixth among all NFL tight ends in both receptions and yards.
