Steelers tender restricted free agents Mike Hilton, Matt Feiler
As the new NFL calendar year began Wednesday afternoon, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced they had tendered offers to two of their restricted free agents.
Right tackle Matt Feiler and slot cornerback Mike Hilton each received a second-round tender worth $3.259 million. If another team tries to sign Feiler or Hilton and the Steelers don’t match the offer, they will receive a second-round draft pick in return.
Feiler and Hilton will be off the market when they sign their tenders, and the Steelers could try to sign them to contract extensions.
Another restricted free agent, tackle Zach Banner, agreed to a one-year, $1.75 million contract.
Safety Jordan Dangerfield, the fourth restricted free agent on the roster, was not tendered a contract and became a free agent.
Feiler started all 16 games last season at right tackle and has made 27 starts in three years with the team. He could shift to left guard this season with the loss of Ramon Foster to retirement and B.J. Finney to free agency.
Hilton has appeared in 47 games the past three seasons while serving as the Steelers primary slot cornerback. He played 62% of the defensive snaps in 2019 while starting eight games. He had 63 tackles, 1½ sacks, one interception, 11 passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
The Steelers lost a fourth free agent on Wednesday when safety Sean Davis signed a one-year deal worth up to $5 million with the Washington Redskins. Nose tackle Javon Hargrave (Philadelphia Eagles), guard B.J. Finney (Seattle Seahawks) and Tyler Matakevich (Buffalo Bills) agreed to contracts elsewhere in the legal tampering period.
