Steelers’ Terrell Edmunds in concussion protocol, 3 other defensive starters evaluated for injury
Four Pittsburgh Steelers starters on defense suffered injuries during Sunday’s 24-20 loss to the New York Jets, including three members of the secondary. Early indications, though, are it’s possible none are serious.
Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and cornerback Cameron Sutton had knee and hamstring injuries, respectively. But each finished the game and spoke to media afterwards, with neither giving any sign he was injured seriously.
Safety Terrell Edmunds was in the NFL concussion protocol, coach Mike Tomlin said.
The fourth regular starter in the secondary, cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon, did not play Sunday because of a hamstring injury he suffered in the previous game.
After Sunday’s game, defensive lineman Cameron Heyward was dealing with ankle and elbow injuries. He twice left the field during the game because of an injury.
“Physically, you know, you get some bumps and bruises that come with the job,” Heyward said. “Just the way it is. Won’t make an excuse for it. I was able to come back from it. But, yeah, took some hits.”
