Steelers to have only family, friends in stands for December home games
Fan capacity will be reduced for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ home games in December, the organization announced Monday after new orders were issued by state Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine.
The Steelers will be permitted to have no more than 2,500 people — including fans, employees and team staff — at Heinz Field for the Dec. 6 game against Washington and the Dec. 27 game against Indianapolis.
“We will have to restrict fans in the seating bowl to family and friends of players and the organization,” Steelers spokesman Burt Lauten said in a statement. “Fans who have selected seats for the December 6 game will receive communication directly from our Ticket Office regarding credits or refunds.”
The orders will not apply to the Steelers’ game Thanksgiving night against the Baltimore Ravens.
Because of restrictions put in place by Gov. Tom Wolf’s office, the Steelers were not permitted to have fans in attendance for their first two home games of the season. When Wolf’s office relaxed its order on outdoor public gatherings, the Steelers were permitted to have 7,500 people at Heinz Field beginning with the Oct. 11 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Steelers capped attendance at 5,500 fans for games against Philadelphia and Cleveland, but 5,909 fans attended the Nov. 15 game against Cincinnati.
