The Pittsburgh Steelers acquired tight end Nick Vannett from the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday, sending a 2020 fifth-round draft pick to Seattle in return for the four-year veteran.
In a move that signals Vance McDonald’s shoulder injury could keep him out of future games, the Steelers added to a depleted position. A former third-round pick out of Ohio State, Vannett has 48 receptions for 463 yards and four touchdowns in 42 career NFL games.

The Steelers broke camp with only three tight ends on their 53-man roster: McDonald, Xavier Grimble and rookie Zach Gentry. McDonald left Sunday’s loss at the San Francisco 49ers because of a shoulder injury. Gentry made his NFL regular-season debut during that game.
The 6-foot-6, 261-pound Vannett is in the final year of his rookie contract and is making $736,000 this season (per Spotrac.com).
