For the first time on Pittsburgh home turf, the Steelers’ defense gave up 249 rushing yards against the Bills — resulting in a definitive 26-7 win for Buffalo.

It was the most rushing yards gained by an opposing team at Pittsburgh since the Bills rushed for 310 yards on Sept. 28, 1975, at Three Rivers Stadium. O.J. Simpson had 227 of them.

Sal Maiorana, Buffalo Bills reporter for the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, gave the Bills’ run offense the score of A+ on his postgame report card.

“(James) Cook had another tremendous game,” he wrote in his analysis. “Yes, he had a damaging fumble in the first half that gave the Steelers a short field at the Bills 39 and they capitalized for their only score of the game, but otherwise, Cook was Buffalo’s only threat on offense.”

Defensive end Joey Bosa had been frustrated that he hadn’t been getting sacks, Maiorana said. But that changed Sunday in Pittsburgh.

“He trucked Aaron Rodgers and forced a fumble that Christian Benford … scooped and scored on to give the Bills a 10-7 lead,” he wrote.

After that play, Rodgers, who was already playing with a cast on his wrist, went to the medical tent with a bloody nose.

The Bills defense showed out with one of their best performances from start to finish, ending with season-lows in points (7) and rushing yards (58) allowed, according to Alec White, content manager with the Buffalo Bills.

Maiorana gave the bills’ run defense an A grade on his report card.

“The Steelers never got anything going on the ground and that crippled their offense because their passing game is worse than Buffalo’s,” he wrote. “Of course, when you have the ball for as little as Pittsburgh did, there isn’t much time to get any type of rhythm. Because of the inability to get into favorable third-down situations, the Steelers went just 3-for-9 plus went 0-for-1 on fourth down.”

Bills quarterback Josh Allen set the NFL career record for regular-season touchdown runs by a quarterback with his 8-yard score in the fourth quarter, ESPN reported.

He now has six straight seasons with at least 30 combined passing and rushing touchdowns, breaking a tie with Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers for the second-most such consecutive seasons.

The Buffalo News’ Jay Skurski said Sunday’s game against the Steelers allowed the Bills to “come alive” after the team’s rough start.

Associated Press Buffalo-based sportswriter John Wawrow said on the social media platform X that he believes the Steelers appear to have entered “crisis mode” after the devastating loss.

In another post, Wawrow praised the Bills’ performance, saying they can build upon it moving forward.

“It took a combination of Allen’s competitive drive, a commitment to running, a resolved defensive effort & an assertive attitude to compensate for every excuse they could have used & everything missing,” he wrote.

NFL Writer for CBS Sports Bryan DeArdo said Sunday’s game was “completely turned on its head” thanks to the first play of the second half. The score off of Bosa’s strip-sack marked the first of Buffalo’s 23 unanswered points in the second half, he wrote.

“Pittsburgh’s next drive also ended with (Christian) Benford’s hands on the ball after he snared in Rudolph’s pass,” DeArdo said. “His pick — in addition to a 31-yard run by Cook — set up Allen’s backbreaking touchdown pass to (Keon) Coleman that extended Buffalo’s lead to 16-7.”
