Steelers will be without CB Joe Haden vs. Bills because of concussion
A starting cornerback for the Pittsburgh Steelers will miss a game for the second week in a row.
Despite getting Steve Nelson back from a knee injury that kept him from playing Monday, the Steelers will be without Joe Haden on Sunday night when they play at the Buffalo Bills.
Haden was ruled out Friday because of a concussion he suffered in the fourth quarter of the Steelers’ 23-17 loss to Washington.
Versatile defensive back Cam Sutton, who started in place of Nelson against Washington, likely will take Haden’s starting spot against Buffalo. Second-year corner Justin Layne also could see extended playing time.
Haden had started 42 consecutive games for the Steelers since sitting out Week 2 in the 2018 season against Kansas City with a hamstring injury. He has two interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown, and 11 pass breakups in 12 starts this season. He also has 48 tackles.
Also ruled out for the game Sunday is inside linebacker Robert Spillane, who injured his knee in the third quarter against Washington. Like Haden, Spillane didn’t practice this week.
All other Steelers players practiced Friday. That included rookie wide receiver Chase Claypool, who was absent Thursday because of an illness, and kicker Chris Boswell, who has practiced the past two days after missing a game because of a hip injury.
