Steelers will turn Emerald Isle black and gold to celebrate game in Dublin
To celebrate the Pittsburgh Steelers’ upcoming game in Dublin this month, the team and Irish airline Aer Lingus are launching a series of fan events and activities with the goal of turning the Emerald Isle black and gold.
The first-ever NFL regular season game in Ireland will take place on Sunday, Sept. 28, when the Steelers face the Minnesota Vikings at Dublin’s Croke Park.
Steelers legends will be present for the weeklong takeover of events in Ireland, the team said.
The Ireland-based activities can be found on the Steelers website, the team said, along with specific details. Key events include:
- Steelers Pro Shop will open Sept. 4 in Dublin, which will house exclusive Steelers gear that is part of the Ireland Collection. In the U.S., fans can purchase Ireland Collection gear online.
- Max Starks, radio personality and former Steelers player, will travel across Ireland in a Steelers-branded van to give out Terrible Towels from Sept. 22-24. The event is dubbed the “Terrible Towel Tour.”
- Fitzsimons Temple Bar, the world-famous pub in Dublin’s Temple Bar District, will become the Steelers Pub and headquarters from Sept. 26-28. There will be live content, giveaways, Steelers legends and more.
- A Steelers Tailgate at Merrion Square will take place from Sept. 26-28. The free event will have entertainment, merchandise for sale, photo ops, giveaways and flag football, as well as a watch party on Sunday for those not attending the game. Fans must RSVP to attend.
“We are thrilled to play in Ireland and give our fans a truly unique gameday experience,” said Steelers President Art Rooney II. “We can’t wait to see our devoted and enthusiastic fans — both our Irish fans and those who are traveling to Dublin to attend the game.”
