Steelers WR Chase Claypool will not play vs. Packers because of hamstring injury
The only healthy starting wide receiver the Pittsburgh Steelers had when their last game ended is not going to be available to them when their next game starts.
Chase Claypool will not play in Sunday’s meeting with the Green Bay Packers because of a hamstring injury. A team spokesman announced Claypool’s change in status early Saturday afternoon after Claypool had been listed as doubtful on the Steelers’ official league-mandated injury report released Friday.
Unlike fellow starting receivers Diontae Johnson and JuJu Smith-Schuster, Claypool finished last week’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Claypool apparently suffered his injury during practice Thursday; he was not listed on the injury report until then. He did not practice at all Friday.
Smith-Schuster and Johnson will play against the Packers. Johnson missed last week’s game because of a knee injury and also has been cleared to play at Green Bay. Smith-Schuster suffered a rib injury during the Bengals game.
The Steelers’ leader in touchdowns last season as a rookie, Claypool has 15 catches for a team-high 211 yards in 2021.
The team had previously announced that starting right tackle Chuks Okorafor (concussion), reserve offensive lineman Rashaad Coward (ankle) and rotational defensive tackle Carlos Davis (knee) would not play against the Packers.
