Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Steven Nelson tackles the Baltimore Ravens’ Gus Edwards in the first half of Sunday’s game. Nelson suffered a groin injury in that game and was limited in practice Wednesday.

Starting cornerback Steve Nelson participated in Pittsburgh Steelers practice Wednesday, and although it was on a limited basis that can be taken as a positive in regards to his potential availability for Sunday’s game at the Los Angeles Chargers.

Nelson suffered a groin injury during last week’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Linebacker Mark Barron had to leave that game because of a hamstring injury; Barron did not practice Wednesday, but he has regularly sat out one practice per week as a veteran’s maintenance day so perhaps less can be read into Barron’s absence.

Injury report for Steelers: Mason Rudolph (concussion), Steve Nelson (groin) and Anthony Chickillo (foot) were limited. Not practicing were James Washington (shoulder), Mark Barron (hamstring), Justin Layne (illness), Rosie Nix (knee), Vance McDonald (shoulder). Pouncey was off.

Anthony Chickillo on Wednesday practiced for the first time since suffering a foot injury in Week 2, albeit in a limited capacity. Continuing to sit out of practice was fellow special-teams standout Roosevelt Nix, who had knee surgery last month but whom coach Mike Tomlin indicated might play Sunday for the first time since the season opener.

Tight end Vance McDonald sat out practice because of his shoulder injury that kept him out of two games before he returned to play against Baltimore. Also out were running back Jaylen Samuels (knee) and receiver James Washington (shoulder) – Samuels is out for multiple games, and Washington reportedly is too.

Rookie cornerback Justin Layne also did not practice because of illness.
