Franklin Regional’s Palmer Jackson finished 22nd at the 2019 Sunnehanna Amateur.

If everything goes as planned and things start to get back to somewhat normal because of the coronavirus pandemic, the 67th annual Sunnehanna Amateur will be held, but a month later than usual.

One of the top amateur tournaments in the country, which has featured a Who’s Who list of professional golfers including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods, will have a new date.

Instead of running from June 17-20, the new date is July 20-24 at Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown.

Another difference is the tournament is ending on a Friday to allow golfers who are competing time to travel to Indiana for the Western Amateur, which begins July 27.

The qualifier for the tournament’s non-invitees is June 29.

Alex Smalley won the title the past two seasons, Nathan Smith of Pittsburgh won in 2011 and Fowler was a champion in 2007 and ‘08.

Franklin Regional grad and Notre Dame freshman Palmer Jackson finished 22nd in 2019.
