Three familiar faces were joined by two newcomers to the ranks of the Pittsburgh Steelers captaincy.

Outside linebacker T.J. Watt and safety Jordan Dangerfield were among the five Steelers captains announced by the team Monday. An All-Pro last season, Watt is entering his fourth NFL season. He shares the defensive captaincy with lineman Cameron Heyward, who signed a four-year contract extension Monday.

Heyward is a captain for the sixth time. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is a captain on offense for the 12th time. He is joined by center Maurkice Pouncey for the third consecutive season and fourth time overall.

Dangerfield is in his seventh season as part of the organization and fourth on the Steelers’ 53-man roster. He has served as one of the team’s core special teamers since 2018. Dangerfield replaces former captain Roosevelt Nix, who was released in March.

This is the first time Heyward has shared captains’ duties on defense since 2016 (William Gay).

The Steelers have not had a player serve as special-teams captain in consecutive seasons since Robert Golden (2014-16).
