T.J. Watt, Minkah Fitzpatrick among 5 Steelers selected to Pro Bowl
The Pittsburgh Steelers will be represented on the offensive line and at all three levels of the defense when the Pro Bowl is played next month.
Five players were selected to compete in the Pro Bowl, which will be Jan. 26 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla.
Guard David DeCastro, center Maurkice Pouncey, defensive tackle Cameron Heyward, outside linebacker T.J. Watt and free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick were chosen to represent the Steelers in voting compiled by fans, coaches and players.
All but DeCastro were selected as starters.
Pouncey was selected for the eighth time and the fourth year in a row. DeCastro was picked for the fifth consecutive season.
On defense, Heyward has made it three consecutive seasons (once as an injury replacement). Watt was picked for the first time, although he participated in 2018 as an injury replacement. Fitzpatrick, who joined the Steelers in a September trade with the Miami Dolphins, is a first-time Pro Bowl selection in just his second NFL season.
Heyward leads AFC defensive tackles with 72 tackles and 19 quarterback hits, and he is second with eight sacks. Watt leads the AFC with 13 sacks, 31 quarterback hits and six forced fumbles. Fitzpatrick’s five interceptions are tied for tops among NFL safeties.
Rookie inside linebacker Devin Bush and veteran special teams player Tyler Matakevich led the final fan balloting, which comprised one-third of the selection process, but they did not make the Pro Bowl roster.
