Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt during a game last season. An NFL defensive player of the year candidate, Watt returned to practice Friday after missing Thursday’s session and will play Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Crisis averted for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

T.J. Watt, one of the NFL’s best defensive players, returned to practice Friday after missing Thursday’s session because of a knee injury.

“I feel great,” Watt said during a video conference call with media Friday afternoon. “Practiced well today. I was flying around, and I will be ready to go for Sunday, no doubt.”

An early candidate for NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Watt had briefly left the Steelers’ most recent game in pain and was seen being examined on the sidelines for an undisclosed ailment. But he finished that Sept. 27 contest against the Houston Texans and even had a late sack.

Because of the postponement of the Week 4 game, the Steelers released no injury report. Watt also practiced fully Wednesday. He was not even listed on the practice report.

The only Steelers players who will not play Sunday are special-teamers Derek Watt and Marcus Allen. Watt, a fullback who is T.J.’s older brother, has a hamstring injury. Allen, an inside linebacker, is out because of a foot injury. Neither practiced all week.
