Tennessee, Florida State players share lead at Sunnehanna Amateur
Two college players, Tennessee’s Bryce Lewis and Florida State’s Cole Anderson, are tied for the lead after one round of the Sunnehanna Amateur.
Lewis used five birdies on the back nine Wednesday and Anderson had a solid 18 holes to shoot a 6-under par 64 at the 69th annual Sunnehanna Amateur to grab a one-shot lead at prestigious tournament.
Three golfers — Nick Gabrelcik, Brian Stark and Julian Perico — were tied for second after shooting 5-under par 65.
Pittsburgh native and 2025 Walker Cup captain Nathan Smith and Greensburg native Mark Goetz were at 2-under 68.
Murrysville native Palmer Jackson shot an even-par 70. There were 16 golfers at even par.
Shaler’s Tanner Grzegorczyk shot a 2-over 72, Fox Chapel’s Gregor Meyer had a 6-over 76, and Oakmont native Sean Knapp had a 7-over 77.
Round 2 at Sunnehanna Country Club will be played Thursday. There are 104 players in the field.
