San Francisco Giants pitcher Justin Verlander (35) delivers in the first inning of a baseball game against the Atlanta Braves, Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in Atlanta.

Here’s a look at next week’s Pittsburgh Pirates schedule:

at Giants

9:45 p.m. Monday (SN PIT)

9:45 p.m. Tuesday (SN PIT)

3:45 p.m. Wednesday (SN PIT)

• Justin Verlander, who turned 42 ahead of the 2025 season, is in his first campaign with San Francisco and was winless through 15 starts heading into the All-Star break. Verlander lasted only 2 2/3 innings July 18 for his first post-break outing and took a loss against the Blue Jays, dropping him to 0-8 on the year. However, July 23 at Atlanta, the three-time Cy Young winner’s winless streak with his new club finally ended, as he tossed five shutout innings. While his season ERA sits at 4.70 through 84 1/3 innings, Verlander has delivered six quality starts for the Giants through his 20th big-league season.

at Rockies

8:10 p.m. Friday (SN PIT)

3:10 p.m. Saturday (SN PIT)

3:10 p.m. Sunday (SN PIT)

• The Rockies had gone 220 straight games without recording a shutout until a 6-0 victory over St. Louis on July 23. It ended what was the third-longest stretch in MLB history, per ESPN. Colorado got six strong innings from rookie Tanner Gordon. That win also gave the Rockies, who ended the day at 50 games under .500 (26-76) their first back-to-back series wins of the season. Colorado is led by interim manager Warren Schaeffer, a 40-year-old Greensburg Central Catholic grad. He took over in early May after Bud Black was fired following a 7-33 start. Under Schaeffer, the club has gone 19-43.
