3 Pitt wrestlers earn No. 1 seeds for ACC Tournament
Pitt wrestlers Micky Phillippi (133 pounds), Gregg Harvey (174) and Demetrius Thomas (285) are seeded No. 1 in their weight classes for the ACC Wrestling Championships that begin at 11 a.m. Sunday at Petersen Events Center.
This season marks the first time since 2015 that three Pitt wrestlers earned top seeds. The ACC Tournament also was held at the Pete that year when Pitt’s Mikey Racciato (149), Tyler Wilps (174) and Max Thomusseit (184) made good use of their No. 1 seeds and won championships.
Pitt also had three No. 1 seeds in 2014.
Other seeds for Pitt wrestlers this year include: No. 2 Kellan Stout of Mt. Lebanon (197), No. 3s Taleb Rahmani (157) and Bethel Park’s Nino Bonaccorsi (184), No. 4s Cole Matthews (141) and South Park’s Jake Wentzel (165) and No. 5s Louis Newell (125) of Seneca Valley and Dallas Bulsak (149) of South Park.
