Ticket from Roberto Clemente 3,000th-hit game, Ben Roethlisberger milestone jersey up for auction
A highly graded ticket from the game in which Roberto Clemente collected his 3,000th career hit, and the uniform that Ben Roethlisberger wore when he surpassed 40,000 yards passing are among items being auctioned this month.
The Pittsburgh Pirates full ticket from the Sept. 30, 1972 game against the New York Mets and the Roethlisberger game-worn jersey from the Pittsburgh Steelers’ game Nov. 1, 2015 against the Cincinnati Bengals are being auctioned at Lelands.com.
The 2024 Summer Classic auction runs through June 29 and can be found on Lelands.com.
The Pirates ticket is one of only two in memorabilia circles that is listed as highly graded. It is the most valued ticket for Clemente memorabilia aside from his Major League Baseball debut in 1955.
Bidding on the 3,000-hit ticket has reached $22,604. Clemente’s double off Jon Matlack on that day was the final one in his career. Written on the back of the ticket is the notation “Clemente’s 3,000th hit.”
In 2015, Roethlisberger became the first quarterback in Steelers history to reach 40,000 passing yards when he threw for 216 yards and one touchdown in a 16-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. For that game, the Steelers wore their throwback “bumblebee” uniform jerseys. The jersey is accompanied by a letter of authenticity that confirms Roethlisberger wore it in the game. Roethlisberger inscribed the jersey on the reverse number plate.
Bidding for the Roethlisberger jersey has reached $12,407.
