Tim Benz, Brian Metzer: Could familiar Penguins trade target re-emerge?
In this week’s hockey podcast, Penguins Radio Network host Brian Metzer and I tell you how to “take care of y’all mentals” during this stressful stretch of hockey.
The Penguins are going to shove five more games onto the calendar between now and their 10-day break which starts on Jan. 21. And it’s a mixed bag of competition.
Mike Sullivan’s club starts that run Tuesday against a struggling Minnesota Wild team which has lost three in a row. They have only 46 points, tied for last in the Central Division.
The Pens will also play the terrible Detroit Red Wings with an NHL-low 27 points.
But the other three contests are against the Atlantic Division-leading Boston Bruins twice and the Philadelphia Flyers once. Philly is currently in an Eastern Conference Wild Card slot after beating the Bruins 6-5 in a shootout Monday night.
How many of those games will feature Matt Murray in net? Brian gives us his best guess. We also discuss how scoring talent will be distributed between Evgeni Malkin’s line and Sidney Crosby’s line.
Whenever Crosby returns. Which could be against the Wild.
We also debate some of the highlights of the Penguins’ perfect western road trip. Patric Hornqvist’s return to relevance. Bill Guerin’s early challenges as Minnesota’s general manager. The potential of Jason Zucker coming to Pittsburgh after all. And the loss of Rush drummer Neil Peart.
Listen: Tim Benz and Brian Metzer and discuss the Penguins’ western conference sweep, upcoming games, Crosby’s return and trade possibilities
