Pittsburgh Penguins’ Kris Letang celebrates his goal with Jared McCann during the second period of an NHL hockey game against the Columbus Blue Jackets in Pittsburgh, Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019.

Times aren’t good for the Pittsburgh Steelers right now. We all know that.

But it’s a struggle for the Penguins, too. They have to find a way around injuries to Evgeni Malkin, Nick Bjugstad and Bryan Rust.

And they are only two games into their 82-game season.

Game 3 is Tuesday night against the Winnipeg Jets. Brian Metzer will be on 105.9 the X as part of the Penguins Radio Network broadcast. He’ll join me weekly for hockey talk segments on the “Breakfast With Benz” podcast.

This is our first podcast of the year. It’s a little longer than normal since we spend a lot of time reviewing the much-anticipated Tool release, “Fear Inoculum.”

But, at 16 minutes, the podcast really isn’t that much longer than most of the songs on the album.

Eventually — I promise — we do get to hockey as we figure out what the Pens will do at forward with those three skaters on the shelf. We also try to diagnose a plan for the power play. And we debate the importance of a fast start for the club in the first month.
