Whenever the Pittsburgh Penguins lose, the default explanation is: "We just need to work harder." OK. Maybe. But was that really the problem in the 4-0 loss Tuesday against Carolina?

I think it was more about a lack of execution and perhaps a need for a more simple approach — and I talk about that in today's podcast.

Some of the players seem to agree.

I also talk about one forward in particular that really needs to step up.

Matt Murray said the Hurricanes' approach of constant traffic and throwing pucks at the net works. Maybe the Pens should employ that tactic more often.

Patric Hornqvist suggested a lack of extended shifts and zone time was an issue. He's right. And there were some other alarming numbers, too.

All of those topics are dissected in the "Sided.co Debate of the Day."
