Tennessee Titans defensive end Jeffery Simmons chases Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence during the second half of a game, Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, in Nashville, Tenn.

For Steelers fans who consider the Jacksonville Jaguars to be a clown show, apparently you were even more accurate than you may have believed.

By now, most of Pittsburgh is aware that if the Steelers are to make the playoffs, they need to beat the Ravens on Sunday in their 2021 regular season finale. But they also need the 2-14 Jacksonville Jaguars to pull off a massive upset of the 9-7 Colts.

How bad has it gotten in Jacksonville? Well, not only did the Jags fire first-year coach Urban Meyer midway through the season, but they have the worst record in the NFL and their fans are organizing a protest for Sunday’s contest against the Colts.

Not just any protest. A “Clown Out!”

Oops. Sorry. I’ll write it in Pittsburghese: “A Clahn Aht!”

According to the Associated Press, the goal is for fans to mock owner Shad Khan by dressing up as clowns when they come to the game Sunday in Jacksonville against the Colts.

“Hundreds, if not thousands, have changed their social media profile pics to a clown donning Khan’s signature mustache,” said the A.P.’s Mark Long. “And they’ve started replying to every Jaguars post or live feed with countless clown emojis. Next up: They’re planning to don clown costumes – red rubber noses, face paint and colorful wigs, at the very least – when the Jaguars (2-14) host Indianapolis (9-7) at TIAA Bank Field on Sunday.”

Did someone say Clown Party?

According to Long, the goal is to shame Khan into firing general manager Trent Baalke, who has fallen out of favor with whatever remains of the fan base. Since the NFL Network reported on Dec. 27 that Khan planned to retain Baalke to conduct the team’s coaching search, supporters of the team have spoken out with displeasure.

Baalke was hired on an interim basis in November 2020. Since then, the franchise is 2-19.

Trevor Lawrence was asked about the protest. The rookie quarterback says he understands the why the fans are upset.

”I wouldn’t do that, but you know, fans feel how they feel. We wanted to win a lot more games, so I get the frustration. Obviously we haven’t had much success this season,” Lawrence said in the Florida Times-Union. ”So that’s frustrating for us as well. But it’s the Jags and they’ve been a fan since the Jags started, so you see that passion and we want to do everything we can to go win for the city and for these fans.”

Yup. That’s the club the Steelers are relying on to get them into the playoffs. In other words, “See Yinz at the Draft!”

By the way, the Ravens need the Jags to win as well for their fleeting playoff hopes to remain afloat heading into Sunday night’s game between the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers.

Maybe it’s best for both the Steelers and Ravens if the in-stadium entertainment crew avoids posting the Jags-Colts score during the game.

In Thursday’s “Breakfast With Benz” podcast, Jamal St. Cyr of News 4 Jax talks about the struggles of the Jacksonville Jaguars, and if they can provide any help to the Steelers on Sunday against the Colts.
