Tim Benz, Jeff Erickson: Will golf lead return to TV sports?; Steelers draft trade talk; MLB Arizona idea
The biggest fantasy in the sports world right now is getting through this global pandemic and getting real games back on the field of play.
But in lieu of that, Jeff Erickson of RotoWire and I do our weekly fantasy sports podcast anyway.
We talk about how golf could lead the way toward getting sports back. Well, maybe without spectators. On television, at least.
Except for one thing — the television part. The golfers may be able to keep social distance. Those in the TV trucks can’t, though. That’s just one of many problems that exist.
Courses are open in Arizona and some other states. They aren’t in California and Pennsylvania where Jeff and I were speaking. We get into the pros and cons of that debate.
On the NFL Draft front, Jeff’s Cincinnati Bengals are in line to get LSU quarterback Joe Burrow with the top pick. We discuss his prospects versus those of last year’s No. 1 overall — Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals — as he gets ready for his second season.
Even without a first-round pick, the Steelers will be an interesting watch on draft day as well. Especially on the trade front. If they go with a running back, what does that mean for James Conner? Could a trade of JuJu Smith-Schuster even be possible? Jeff thinks one is far more likely than the other.
The Arizona MLB “baseball in a bubble” idea has been floated around. Jeff seems more on board with it than I do. He’ll tell you why.
Finally, the nostalgia of all those re-broadcasted games we’ve been watching of late was great at first, but now may be making us miss the real thing all the more.
And no, Jeff is not going to get me to watch the Reds-Pirates 1990 NLCS again!
Glenn-bleepin’-Braggs. Grr!
