What do you make of an 8-8 season?
Given what the Pittsburgh Steelers went through this season with the loss of Ben Roethlisberger and other injuries, 8-8 wouldn’t seem to be too bad.
But, as Tim Benz and Mark Madden point out, the Steelers were in a good position to make the playoffs anyway. Benz and Madden say the Week 16 loss to the New York Jets seemed to deflate the team and the inability to beat the Baltimore Ravens’ backups Sunday in a season-ending 28-10 loss was evidence of a tired defense and, perhaps, a team that just ran out of juice and magic.
The guys discuss what positions the Steelers need to address in the offseason, whether coordinator Randy Fichtner deserves any blame for the offensive deficiencies and look ahead to where the team stands in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Aside from the Steelers, Benz and Madden discuss the Penguins sweeping the Nashville Predators over the weekend, Matt Murray’s tendency to allow weak goals and the state of the wingers as the forwards continue to get healthy and Sidney Crosby’s return looms.
