All the top seeds in the District 31 American Legion playoffs won their games in the opening round of the playoffs.
Three of the games were blowouts, and one was a nail-bitter.
No. 1 Latrobe defeated No. 8 Yough, 10-1; No. 2 Bushy Run downed No. 7 Somerset, 8-1; and No. 3 Murrysville got past No. 6 Mt. Pleasant, 12-3.
The tight game was at West Lebanon where No. 4 Young Township squeezed past No. 5 Hempfield East, 5-4.
Game 2 of the best-of-three series will be 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Yough High School, Somerset High School, Mt. Pleasant High School and Pitt-Greensburg.
Latrobe used a four-run second inning and a three-run fifth inning to push past Yough.
Winning pitcher Haden Sierocky allowed three hits, and Erick Batista, Logan Bradish, Cole Short and Sierocky had two hits each.
Short had two doubles, Bradish hit a home run and double, Tyler Smith doubled and Lou Amatucci tripled.
Cooper Basciano had a two-run single in the second inning.
At Harrison City, Carmen Metcalfe drove in four runs, three coming on a three-run homer and added a single.
Colton Tyburski had two doubles and two RBIs, Ethan Septak had two hits and Anthony Monroe and Brody Hoffman had doubles.
Dom Delio worked the first five innings and struck out five.
At Murrysville, the home team scored nine unearned runs in the sixth inning to snap a 3-3 tie.
Cole Brinker’s RBI hit gave Murrysville a 5-3 lead.
Max Bernadowski had a triple and double and Blake Bertucci, Nolan Boehm, Lukas Duncan and Marko Rudek each had two hits.
Brinker was the winning pitcher.
Sonny Marne doubled for Mt. Pleasant.
At West Lebanon, Young Township used a four-run fourth inning to rally past Hempfield East.
Peyton Chismar had a double and single for Hempfield East, and Conner Burkey and Max Short had two hits.
Five players had RBIs for Young Township.
